Hair restoration

Hair restoration is performed to reinstitute hair in bald or thinning areas of the scalp.

There are multiple types of hair transplant surgery that you can opt for. They can be used in combination to provide you with the best outcome for hair restoration.

Transplantation can imply a follicular unit transplant method where the strip of you your skin with hair follicles is removed from your scalp. The hair follicles are then removed from the strip and placed into the site where you want them.

There is also the follicular unit extraction method where individual follicles are removed from your scalp without removing your skin. Just like in the previous method, these follicles are then inserted into the site where they are needed.

There are also tissue expansion or reduction surgeries that make the hairless scalp areas less visible.

Who can benefit from hair restoration therapy

Receiving a hair transplant can improve your appearance and self-confidence. Good candidates for a hair transplant include:

men or women with bald areas or thinning hair
anyone who has lost hair from a burn or scalp injury

Is hair restoration therapy painful?

No. After thoroughly cleaning your scalp, a surgeon will use a small needle to inject a local anesthetic into a small area of your head.

How long does the therapy last?

A hair restoration session can take 4 or more hours. Your stitches will be removed about 10 days after surgery and you may need 3 or 4 sessions to get the results you need.

Sessions are several months apart.

What happens after the therapy?

Some soreness in the scalp may occur which can be remedied by pain medication, anti-inflammatory medication, or antibiotics.

Most people return to work a few days after surgery.

The transplanted hair falls out a couple of weeks after the procedure which allows for the new hair to grow.

New hair growth usually occurs in 8 or 12 months after surgery.

In the meantime, our doctors may prescribe minoxidil or finasteride to aid your hair restoration process. These medications also help slow down or stop future hair loss.
